Bob,
If I remember correctly the MKT camelbacks were inspection engines in the 
teens. When the new Katy president came from the NYC he brought his inspection 
engine with him and then had another one or two done. These Camelbacks actually 
had a comfort cab compartment that seated several so the "bigwigs" could 
inspect the railroad ahead. Hard times on the Katy demanded that the 
locomotives be rebuilt for revenue service so they only lasted short time.
