I spent Friday afternoon going to local lumberyard to pick up my last 4x8 sheet
of homosote. While I should feel lucky to be able to get homosote in sorthern
California, I was very unhappy with the surface of the sheet. We have all
commented on various ways to deal with the uneven thinknesses, but this last
batch of sheets were all pretty irregular. Thank goodness this is the last
sheet as the rest of the track will be on homobed.
Question I have for anyone in the group to comment on is: has anyone tried to
use MDF board instead of homosote? I saw it next to the homosote, and it was
so smooth and even. Same price ($37) but smooth.
Does it have any ability to hold spikes, and does it have any sound deading
properties?
