Frank was creative, a craftsman with an artist's eye.

Frank had an artist's eye and could see something to use for a model in common household items. And one case I remember vividly because I happened to visit him just after he completed it, and he was so proud of it. On one locomotive he used a foot from a bottom of a toilet seat for the sandbox. Of course he had to shape it to fit the boiler and added the sander details, but it started with a piece of junk he had saved. Frank was one of those guys who, if he wanted a model, he'd use make it with pieces if they were available, but if not, he'd find some way to make it. And was also willing to use items from other scales if they worked. His S scale Shay he built starting with an On3 one was an example of that. Like others, I view him as a sort of mentor. His influence made it easier for me to try doing things like building Sn3 locomotives starting with HO ones. So what if they needed the frame narrowed to be regauged. Just do it! Wonder what he used from the frame and drivers for those locos. Tom ------------------------------------ Yahoo! Groups Links ------------------------------------ Yahoo!
