I visited my local HS a few days ago to find some ScaleCoat paint.
Discovered they no longer carry it in stock! Looks like most of us who
used to rely on a neighborhood hobby shop will have to move to
DesPlains, Ill. I really haven't had to mail order common items since I
was a kid back in South Dakota; more than once I've driven down to one
of the three major shops in my hobby clothes (grubby-paint stained
cutoffs and sandals) to get what I needed in mid task, and continue
working.
Anyway I spent a few minutes looking at the various magazines on their
rack (they still have a good selection of those including the S Gaugian)
and found one of my favorites that used to be called Fine Scale Modeling
now labeled the Modeler's Annual. It seems as though they've cut back a
bit on things, but what they feature is excellent work although
generally in the larger scales. If you like weathering and structures,
this is a great reference book--but not cheap!
