Tom (and all),

I will be putting my new 'closer-to-scale' draft gear box into production as
soon as the new Sergent Engineering couplers come out.  This new box  is
intended primarily for the new Sergent couplers, but I went way out of my way
to find a way to get Kadee  couplers to work in  it as well.  I think this
method sould work fairly well, but there will be a small  amount of limitation
to the amount of side-to-side trav el of them due to the length of the shank on
the Kadee coupler.

John,

You have a good idea there.  Will your device be available soon?

If I understand Bob right, what he has done with his "snubber" piece is the
same things as will be required as part of the process of fitting Kadee 802/808
couplers in my forthcoming draft gear boxes.  Step 1 of that process is shown
below :

Step two is shown below and includes a "snubber" block :

I like the 802's but really don't like the slack action especially with a
long train. I started eliminating the centering spring and instead filling
the space where the spring goes with a small "snubber" cut from a piece of
soft white rubber eraser. It keeps the coupler centered and provides some
shock absorption but eliminates the slack.  Give it a try.
