You are overlooking the size difference between N or HO scales and S or O
scales. The only way many folks can model in S and even more so in O is if they
model tight curves which require compromises like swinging pilots and oversized
flanges. What work best for HO does not work best for the larger scales.
There's many more toy train operators in O scale than there are scale modelers
and the same is true of Flyer and S scale and it's simply due to the size and
space requirements. If you don't like the fact that Lionel is trying to add new
S products don't buy them but you should be aware of what they will add to the
scale indirectly as more support products will be made as more models are sold.
If scale modeling is too hard for you in S then why not go with HO or N like
the great mass of modelers do? There you won't have to adapt the compromised
stuff to your needs and will feel less stress. Whatever space you have to model
S scale in is going to look more realistic modeling HO and even more realistic
modeling N scale in it as I'm sure you are aware? I've found S is a great size
but only for those who are willing to accept the compromises of the larger size
and lower production numbers.......DaveBranum
