P-B-L makes two variations of air hoses out of rubber in S scale. Part #'s PBL-555 and PBL-556, currently on their web site for $5 for eight air hoses. The difference is a draft gear bracket. I've had good luck with them.
Hi-Tech Details is the non-S scale part of P-B-L and, among other things, makes rubber air hoses in HO and O scales. Are you using the HO rubber Hi-Tec hoses or some other brand? I did say the cut levers were "seen" as being easily damaged; I'll know better once I start operating sessions if they survive.
