Hi all --

While I happen to agree with the “show and tell” style of contests, that does
not get you any points towards any NMRA certificates. As I mentioned to Bill
Lane off list, I think most of us are very confortable with our abilities and
choices, and we don’t need to have our egos stroked by winning contests or
gaining NMRA certificates. I suspect that is why there are so few NMRA MMRs
amongst us compared to having so many VERY good modelers as a group...

I know that Roger Nulton was not necessarily after his MMR as a goal, it just
came about because someone noticed that he met enough of the NMRA requirements
within his life in the hobby to qualify. From my point of view, Dick Karnes
is the ultimate reflection of the “not going after the MMR, I do it for myself”
situation. What HASN’T he done well?

Have fun!

I like the RPM display models concept and I also think the popular vote
contests like O scale west are fun so I'd prefer both. Folks bring what they
are working on for show and tell and everyone votes for their favorite, no
entry necessary any model in the room eligible. Since people will vote for what
appeals to them I'd make three categories; narrow gauge, modern era,and
transition or earlier era....DaveBranum
