I hope to put some modeling skills to work tonight. Actually, much of my work is simply cleaning up dust and dirt from the last 20+ years on one area of the layout. I had painted a mountain scene, but didn't feel skilled enough to paint individual trees, so I just planted a mess of them in front of the barren hillsides. This has gotten me by, until I either gained the skills, found a sucker to help me or just decided to try without learning the skills.

Now fast forward and I've noticed some of the trees turning gray on one side. I have a ceiling fan that throws dust against the trees despite having a room air cleaner. I have a feeling that the ceiling fan controls the air flow above the layout level and the air cleaner works better below that level. In addition to the dust, some fairly expensive pine trees have been dropping their needles. I replaced many of those 3 years ago in one area. Since then I've been making my own trees, so I came in last night and removed several dozen older trees. I need to vacuum the area and then do some background/mountainside touch-up and then replant some fresh trees.

I hate to throw away those older trees, so I'll re-flock some of them for replanting in other spots. However since time is short, I guess I'll just dig down under the layout and pick out trees from my inventory to plant. Seems I've read where one railroader used a diluted Lysol cleaner to spray his scenery and claimed it brightened things up. Have any of you fine folks used anything else that could do the trick??--I've got some other areas that will need some work in the future.

Thanks John,
You've reminded me of just how crazy my life was when I was younger. I'm very thankful that I have the free time I do have I think I'll take my wife out for supper tonight, and then see if I can get some modelling done before the party tomorrow morning. Life's an adventure!
