Hello Rachel,

Thanks for sticking around. This is really a pretty good group when we don't
go off on tangents, knuckle dragging and chest thumping.

You may be picking the ideal time to get into S. In a way, S is also starting
over.

While the last two years have been somewhat uncertain due to the model
manufacturing climate in China, things are looking up like never before.

Lionel has finally begun to take the American Flyer line seriously, is
expanding offerings to things never before seen in the S mass market and is
beginning to court the scale modeler. Whether they succeed with the scale
crowd is uncertain at this time is unknown. It's early days yet, but they're
new commitment to S can't be denied.

Mike's Train House has purchased the well respected S-Helper Service a couple
of weeks ago and indicates to have production resuming by the end of the year.
We are also looking forward to MTH expanding on the SHS line.

Both these companies, with their name recognition and marketing skills, have
the potential to put S in the foreground of model railroading, rather than in
the background where it has resided over the decades.

Then there's also American Models and S Scale America, small companies when
compared to Lionel & MTH also affected by the China Syndrome, but are well into
the process of getting back into production.

There are many other small companies in the S universe challenging the odds,
but AM, the former independent SHS and SSA represent the "bread and butter" of
the scale.

S is the "perfect scale." We say so ourselves. But, I've also heard this
recently said by some who aren't in S.

So, once again, welcome to S and the group.
