I don't believe so. But let me quote from an article in the November 1955 MR by Frank Ellison. "The Edison batteries have been on charge since suppertime, restoring the drain of last week's operation. Eleven years on the Delta Lines and 20 years before that in the battery boxes under the Panama Limited cars, the brutes are practically indestructable." Using batteries eliminated all the messy and expensive conversion of AC power.
