Haha Grey is good! and if the Lionel S scale cars are as nice as their O
scale stuff they'll be well worth dealing with the paint jobs.
The Heritage schemes are prototypical but until they outnumber the normal
locos they are not typical. When modelers create a layout they look for the
typical not the unique. Toy train operators and collectors seem to do the
opposite. The big problem I see for the heritage units is that young modelers
don't care about the heritage and just want to model today's NS, BNSF , or UP
and the older modelers that do care about the heritage don't like the new locos
and don't want to be reminded that the big companies swallowed up their
favorites.
So who's left to buy them? Just folks with no ties to any real railroading I
guess and those attracted to shiny objects? The new Lionel in SP grey for
instance makes a lot more sense to me as a running loco as they lasted many
years and could be patched into a UP unit to extend their era.If I was modeling
a mainline instead of a branch line I'd certainly want one, but I can't think
of any scenario where i'd want a heritage paint scheme...DaveBranum
