Hi Keith -- The 4-4-2 I have is one of the inside bearing trailing axle versions. If you don’t have one of these, the details might have been different, but here are a few shots. I can see that someday I will have to center the number plate! I have already all but remade the loco -- new motor, rewired, fixed the gearbox, set up the suspension (trued up the trailing axle bearing), different tender, and extended the cab roof. I still have to renumber it and maybe add a couple more details, then clear coat both loco and the tender to match (I also have to renumber the tender-- it came from an Omnicon 4-6-0 which now has a USRA tender. Another photo).
Yes, lots of newspaper is ready to go under the work on the dining room table! Good luck! Bill Winans --------------------------------- You better put down some newspaper so you don't scratch or get paint on your dining table! I am curious about the smoke box area on the boiler of your SWM 4-4-2. I purchased one that had some detail parts removed. There are a few holes on the sides and front of the smoke box. I talked with Fred Rouse for ideas and ordered some parts to install before I repaint the smoke box. Could you take a close-up photo of the front of the boiler and one of the sides of the smoke box to verify the details? Thank you. Keith Erhart
