Hi again --

Not that particular headlight, but Precision Scale might be a good place to
check. I think Bob McCarthy has the old Tomalco line of parts and he might
have something also. Photos of the real locos (SP A-3) show some of them with
other headlights during their careers as they were modernized. If you are
doing a particular loco, it would be worthwhile to check photos. If you are
like me, and just want to have a loco that fits your roster, then almost
anything will work. In looking at the photos of the real engines, one of the
things missing from the model are the builders‘ plates. Most of them were
Brooks engines which is an oval plate, but Baldwin also made a few. I figure
that I will take some thin plastic and make an oval and glue it on (Bill Lane
is having fits!) and paint it the same color as the smokebox, as the photos
don’t show a different color and I wouldn’t be able to read the print if it
were there. If you want to get crazy, there was a lot of plumbing behind the
trailing axle – the photos printed on the paper page are too indistinct to tell
what it all really is – that appear to be train heat and such related.

I only have the loco because I couldn’t sell it when I was a a dealer, even at
a good price. Of course, now that I have worked on it, it is a good performer
– nearly the equal of a River Raisin model – and has the character of a SLE&P
loco. It still is not suitable for the location of my railroad with the
grades (they were flatland locos!), but now that I have it set up, what the
heck. It will pull a two car “tourist” train, or the executive business car.

Have fun!

Thank you so much for the photos as they really show the detail parts that I
will need to replace. I guess that I will be giving Fred another call to see
what he has available. By chance, do you know whom might have that style of
headlight?
