There were quite a few railroads that had non-REA express services after WWII. 
Most were initially on-line only, but the cars tended to stray off-line after a 
while.

Examples would be the SP black and later silver boxcars, and the CNJ green 
express cars. At least the CNJ cars were passenger equipped, and letter for 
specific on-line routes.

Thanks Pieter. I'm familiar with many of the expedited LCL services offered by 
some railroads using specially painted cars like NYC's Pacemaker and B&O's 
Timesaver. I didn't realize that some LCL was carried on passenger trains.
