The late Mr. Sandersfeld sure put me on his s--- list when I critiqued these
errors at the time the units came out.

When RI got their F-2s in 1946, they shortly after "upgraded" the units with
the 45-degree boards and changed the porthole setup from three portholes to two
portholes and the "chicken-wire covering the square vent openings between them.

There's another problem with the later versions of the Wabash Valley shells.
I remember this because Billy Wade did an excellent article on bashing an F-2 A
unit from Wabash Valley shells for "3/16 'S'cale Railroading." Billy used most
of a WV "B" unit for the rear 3/4 of the A unit body because the B had the
requisite three portholes, whereas the A had only two.

Well, it turns out that very few people could repeat what Billy did because
WV's second run of the B shells had only two portholes! It turns out that WV
mistakenly used the rear slide from the A mold instead of the correct B slide.

So -- A word to those of you who dig out those old shells for new projects:
Check the B shells. Chances are 50-50 that they are incorrect.
