Hi Dave: Thanks for the kind words about my layout and its potential influence on the general hobby population. I'm flattered, although not sure how influential it will be.
That said, I was influenced by the availability of SCALE S equipment that was good enough to go head-to-head with anything at a Railroad Prototype Modelers meet. If that didn't exist, I would not be here. It's that simple. The 2-6-0 and 4-6-0 locomotives produced by Fred Rouse / Simon Parent... the passenger cars and forthcoming CNR 8-hatch reefer from Andy Malette... the cabooses and Fowler boxcars from Oliver and David Clubine at Ridgehill Models... these convinced me to consider S scale. Add to this list the wonderful brass imports from Dan Navarre... plus the equipment from PRS, SHS, AM and SSA... and I was convinced I could be a prototype modeler in 1:64 without alienating my friends who are accomplished, prototype modelers in HO. Providing, of course, I picked a modest prototype - since unlike my friends working in 1:87, I would have a lot more bashing and scratching ahead of me. So far, it's working for me. I would suggest that those doing great work in S scale consider attending RPM meets - either in their neighborhood, or one of the big ones like the RPM Conference that just took place in Naperville IL or the upcoming Cocoa Beach meet. Earlier this year, I attended the Toronto RPM meet with my S scale rendition of The Daily Effort - the mixed train that served Port Rowan - and it was very well received. I think the heightened presence of S impressed a lot of the attendees who model the CNR in the steam era in HO... Cheers! - Trevor --- Trevor Marshall Port Rowan in 1:64 I model a steam-era Canadian National branch line terminal in S scale, and blog about it here: http://themodelrailwayshow.com/cn1950s The Model Railway Show Listen in as two S scalers (and recovering radio newscasters) host a podcast about the hobby: http://www.themodelrailwayshow.com --- In [email protected], "ctxmf74" <ctxm@...> wrote: > > > > --- In [email protected], Michael Ostertag <wsmwrr@> wrote: > > HO has at least 15 different 3 bay covered hoppers > > on the market and we can't even get together to get 1 new one > > manufactured!
