Dave,

If i remember correctly did Pacific Rail Shops come out with a cylindrical
hopper car. Where was the market for them. Now I believe Des Plains Hobbies has
that line. Now what abiut highrail wheels on SMMW kits. Is that not where a
major market is. High rail guys would love to get out of the collector glut
that scale guys think we are in, Yes I'm High rail for now. Only one scale club
in my area(30 miles away).WE need more new stuff other than what we have now.
We have modern era guys with SD-60's and other diesel power. we are not all
stuck in the steam era.

That's a big mis-understanding of cause and effect. If the manufacturers wanted
to build S scale covered hoppers they wouldn't let the old Flyer guys stop
them. S scale has nothing to do with flyers, they are too separate things.
Manufacturers could build S scale trains if flyer never existed,If they aren't
it's because they don't see the advantage of a size between HO and O scales, if
they truly got it they'd already have jumped on the opportunity.
To have a strong future S must stand as a scale size not a descendant of toy
train line, and to do that it will need more exposure to mainstream modelers
and more publicity based on it's size advantages. Stuff like Trevor's new
Canadian layout are what will catch the attention of the greater hobby
community. ....DaveBranum
