Did they dother to check the preorders for the scale wheel SD70ACe's? One DCC inclusion was confirmed, I tried switching a preorder from hirail to scale wheels, my LHS was told "sold out."
Not cancelled, not discontinued, not thrown into the trash, but sold out. Recent past experience has shown that one end of Lionel doesn't know what the other end is doing. I can understand the reluctance to offer scale wheel steam locomotives, but diesel wheels are easy. Kadee coupler brackets are a piece of stamped steel. Considering the effort expended to get DCC into the SD70's before production started, this seems premature. And, if they are not in "the business of advancing the hobby of scale model trains," why bother with scale proportioned locomtives at all? The could just continue cranking out low-resoultion traditional Flyer type products and call it a day. We'll have to wait and see what the next catalog says, but if this developement is true, there will be at least one person here who will be happy...
