If anyone asks use the premise that they're being deadheaded to a shortline
(or museum).

And depending on arrangements, they can also be running (working for their
fare).

Last year there was an E8A (dead-in-tow?) in the consist of a couple of
late model GEs.

The E8 is circa 1949-1954.

So anything can be a prototype.

Go for it.
