Speaking of the Santa Fe getting their money's worth out of a locomotive, the BNSF locomotive service yard in Temple, Tx has three GP-30s and several GP-38s on their reserve track. They are all still painted in the Santa Fe blue and yellow war bonnet freight scheme with BNSF painted on the cab. Several years ago I read in Classic Toy Trains about a layout that had a "train museum" on it. The author said it was the perfect way to get different era locomotives and rolling stock on the layout. Since Ed models the UP then he can include the UP steam program on his layout. I believe the Challanger and #844 are always helped by a diesel when they roll. Living here in the Dallas area the Museum of the American Railroad is moving from Fair Park in Dallas to Frisco, Tx. Over the past few months there have been hospital trains of vintage Pullmans, a Russian decapod on a flat car, a Frisco Northern class locomotive, and several other vintage equipment. The most interesting train included the UP Centennial locomotive, a Santa Fe FP-45, a Pennys GG-1, TXI RDS-1,a VO-1000, and a H12-44. The museum's Big Boy will be moving by rail on July 14. It's been interesting to watch the museum's F-7 pushing it back and forth to make sure everything is lubbed up. Now there's some modeling ideas for everybody!

I know Santa Fe tried a lot of different things to get their money's worth out of some of these units that were longer on promise than on delivery. > ------------------------------------ Yahoo!
