As has already been pointed out, first generation UP power running in consist with newer power is (was) not likely. However, later units, such as GP-35's, SD-40's, etc. is open to question, since those units lasted into the modern era. Even "progressive" UP needed something to get the work done while they worked the bugs out of their new wonder toys.
Another consist I originally looked upon with skepticism was Jim Kindraka's mention of running U25B's and new GE's. However, reaching into the dusty recesses of my memory of things Santa Fe, I seem to remember U25B's running in consist with at least U33C's, and maybe later power, as well.
