For what it's worth, "transorbs" have an inherent wear-out mechanism.
They're fine for computer transient absorber boxes (AC line conditioners)
where they're only exposed to occasional high-voltage spikes, but in any
application where spiking is repetitive, transorbs are useless as they will
soon degrade.
