It would help if somebody could write down which spkgs and patches need to
be applied and in which order. Also, since at least one patch depends on
#7820, that ticket would need to be reviewed before any of this can be
merged into Sage. (The somewhat ugly alternative would be to make this
independent of #7820, merge it, and then put the necessary changes at
#7820.)
Anyway, I think we're getting very close with this ticket.
