I think the point of referee patches was to separate the work done by
different people and make it possible to see what was actually changed by
Marshall, as opposed to the code which he already carefully reviewed and
accepted modulo his changes.
It would be also nice if Marshall looked over the new patch submitted by
Volker, since he can understand it much better than anyone else (except
for Volker, of course ;-))
