 I just see that the documentation say

 "The cc wrapper actually calls gcc. This should already be the case as cc
 just installs as symlink cc -> gcc. But sometimes this link is dropped in
 manual gcc installs."

 How about when gcc and cc and entirely different programs?

 Seriously, I would drop the whole idea.

 Sorry I did not pick up on this ticket earlier. My dad died in mid
 January, so Sage has not been high on my priority list.
