Concerning "Choice of categories for polynomial rings", I suggest to add a
function somewhere (perhaps in
sage/rings/polynomial/multi_polynomial_ring.py) that takes the category of
the base ring and the number of generators as arguments, and returns the
appropriate category of the polynomial ring.
That would certainly be better (and easier to maintain and also easier to
cache and thus more efficient) than to choose the category in the
different `__init__` methods of different kinds of polynomial rings.
