 I've been wondering for a while if we should change Sage to use autoconf.
 (When I say "we", I don't actually mean me, since I don't know anything
 about writing `configure` scripts, nor do I want to learn.) This could
 replace spkg-install (especially with the modifications at #10492 that
 create a Makefile on the fly). Does this make sense as an enhancement?
 Should I poll sage-devel about it, and then open a ticket if the response
 is positive?
