OK so in a normal configuration without modification it lands in
$SAGE_LOCAL/lib64 which is addressed in #12405 which is in beta8. So it
should be able to find it. At this stage I would like the output of
{{{
strace gfan
}}}
to see what exactly happens and what is opened when.
For your problem when you pass --libdir=$SAGE_LOCAL/lib you are probably
looking at the wrong config.log. The config.log you posted is fine but it
is also the top level config.log. The configuration file that fails is
further down the building process. From the context of your build log it
looks like it is related to libgcc configuring itself for a multilib
install. I will try to reproduce the error.
