Ooh la la!
Patsy, first of all, I am glad that your subject is as is above - thanks, that is the whole issue I think & I kept repeating & reiterating the same "Saligao-related" in my posting & tacking on the old suggestion (not rule) of leaving out politics & religion - so no personal overtones at all unless it is personal in that it is my mail, my opinion, my suggestion & my view point - again the same - "I" would prefer to adhere to SaligaoNet rules and discuss only Saligao-related matters or issues. In fact if you, Dilip & I & perhaps a few others who have yet to make their postings (I hope) ever got together, rest assured that 24 hours of the day would not be enough to discuss all the issues that I wish to discuss & the thoughts that are going on in my head. But that doesnt mean I would agree or disagree with either of you or with both of you or with any of the others of course - isnt that what discussion is all about? I have addressed just one para to you directly about mind-reading because I cant vouch for the others only for myself & that is because it is a statement made in observation of your general observation. How do you or I or we know the level of care for children & others that each has or that I have? It has to be personal Patsy, it is my thought, not any other SaligaoNetters thoughts since I havent seen any other posting on this particular topic. But that doesnt mean anything....you may yet have people discussing the issues on this Forum at a later stage since they might not have had time to do so yet or like you, havent received the posting in their mailbox yet. To be on the safe side, & to ensure that you do get this mail in your mailbox, I will copy you on the same, Patsy. If the rest of my paras are read correctly, I stressed on rules of SaligaoNet, ...issues discussed should be Saligao-related..nothing personal there but if you want to discuss other issues (read my first para) then you got to get the rules changed & then some of us might be ready, I presume, to discuss any issue. The avoidance of discussion on politics & religion is not a rule on SaligaoNet, it was a suggestion made a long time ago & repeated now....the rest was in general but putting myself in the forefront so to say as those are my opinions & my suggestions. ......just observations based on your observations. & repetition of the same old story "Saligao-related" in almost every para. Actually Patsy, why dont you agree with my caption tacked on to the original caption - seeing that your original views are such (no personal overtones please note) that most dont want to discuss certain issues (whether Saligao-related or not)... "Blinkers On" would be good wouldnt it? My view of course. It is already accepted by some of us that people in general dont want to discuss the issue & we all know very well there is one though not Saligao-related yet ....yeh yeh always this repetition Why are you in a hurry to opt out, Patsy? As I see it, no discussion started yet, so no time & energy has been wasted yet unless you got tired just typing out such a short para to me.....just kidding!...so please do wait for the other postings to make their appearance before making your decision (just a suggestion) on whether the discussion of the original issue in question should continue - it is after all your prerogative to do so ...I am only one amongst the many SaligaoNetters (silent so far) who portrayed my opinion & suggestion. As such, I wont be discussing said issue on SaligaoNet. I didnt see any "personal accusations" in anybody's mail to-date.... No cyber blows as far as I'm concerned, ... none received, none taken, none given.... I dont think Rico & his moderation team is required here? Do you? Once again, Happy Feast to one & all Have a good evening & a good weekend, we have an extended one starting this evening & going on till Monday. Great! You seem to have taken my posting as a personal accusation. It was in no way intended to be that way. I was not accusing anyone of anything. If you re-read my posting, you will note (I hope,) that mine were mere observations, and a reiteration/endorsement of Dilip's observations. Anyway, when things (discussions) reach this point, where they begin to get to the stage of 'cyber blows' then I choose to opt out, as it is not worth wasting my time, energy, or sanity to prolong a discussion that's not going along the lines it should; because from there, it can easily spiral out of control, unless Rico decides to put a stop to it. Before it gets to that point, obviously, I choose to end this discussion as there is not much point in prolonging it, in my opinion! I have not been receiving the last few postings to Saligaonet (including mine) which is why I was wondering whether they were getting through. "religious, political, social, economic" & a whole host of other issues...I have never been against discussion, or against people having their say, opinions, views... I have reached the age & stage where I am well able to accept the latter, & discuss. ....However I am surprised to note that you expect us to just ignore the rules of what you call "Saligao-related" nonsense laid down on this Forum. Do please get the rules changed using your persuasive tactics & reasoning powers & we will follow suit ...- discussion of any and every topic under the sun on SaligaoNet. I look forward to that..... In case you are not aware yet .... GoaNet is a good forum to discuss various issues. By the way, Patsy, are you into mind-reading now?..... how would you know my thoughts on care, protection of children or adults or animals for that matter just because I wished that we SaligaoNetters adhere to the rule - "Saligao-related" topics? As you said there are groups discussing various issues around the world & it is no different in my small space of my world. This particular issue that Dilip touched on has been a point of disucssion since last year or perhaps before, (so you & Dilip are a bit late as it is) but as I mentioned above, I do stick to rules laid down - can you envisage any system, school, organisation, government etc. succeeding if their rules are not adhered to? As for your statement - "This has to do with basic issues of personal safety and protection" - have you forgotten that these issues in general & in particular have been around since time immemorial? & the world is still dealing with them, sometimes succeeding but not always - I am sure you are reading enough about the same on the newspaper every morning. With regard to the caption The Elephant in the Room ...... to cover all aspects of this issue & prospective issues, perhaps we could tack on - "Blinkers On"! We've had the Elephant, the Ostrich,... why not the Horse? Poor things! all these animals/birds are God's creatures also & I dont like maligning them as I care for these (vulnerable?) as they are unable to speak for themselves and just have to accept whatever is meted out to them. ...Just for the record, I am no activist - Human Rights or Animal Rights - just a human sharing the Planet Earth with others & I would like to stay that way, preferably in peace & harmony. Happy Feast to one & all...May the Mother of God bless & protect us all, always. To: [email protected] Sorry....a little late in posting my comments on this topic. (Am actually on vacation right now!) But as Dilip rightly says, this serious issue is being discussed by all kinds of groups all over the world - especially anyone interested in some positive action and outcomes. Every point that Dilip has made is extremely valid, and the degree to which we participate or want to participate in a discussion of this kind (on any forum), is a clear and direct indication of our interest in wanting to protect the most vulnerable members of society - our children! We need to be cautious about having completely blind faith in anyone. Unfortunately, that is how the vulnerable are taken advantage of, anywhere....in case we don't know already!! There is nothing wrong with wanting to be absolutely reassured that our children receive the protection they deserve. And not wanting to discuss matters like these because they are either "religious" or "political" issues......I can't really make any sense of that at all. And as far as the 'Saligao-related' nonsense goes.....I can only say how disappointed I am that that thought would even come to the mind of anyone who genuinely cares about children or youth. This has to do with basic issues of personal safety and protection. The "Elephant in the Room" caption for this issue could not be more apt! Ostrich head inthe Sand???? So there genuinely is an elephant in the room that we daren't talk about... and some of us move very quickly to keep it that way. One says it's not a Saligao issue: didnt know there were no children in saligao, or that saligaokars had no children elsewhere. Come on Annette! Melvin claims that having such a discussion would be religious or political when in fact it is only about protecting children - our village children - whether they have or have not been victims. (please note, Fred, no one is guilty at present) And the rest of us bury our heads in the sand and discuss other matters of great importance (religious feasts and youth soccer). How ironic! Just wanted to test the water and I've come to the conclusion that it's cold - cold with fright. PS Thanks for the spoiler Albert, I had no idea what a trumpet looked like until your email came along. PPS Fred, is this one going to get through or is it too close to the bone? Yeah, Fully agree with you that unless Saligao related other issues should not be discussed or persons should not seek answers on this village website specially if it is relating to politics and religion. Let the village gossip prevail. Hmm! I have questions, opinions, views on this issue & many others but unless Saligao-related (that is the rule on this forum isnt it?) .....they will remain with me! & from past experience it is better that religion & politics is left out else we have everybody calling everybody names.... & the issue gets left behind... & then the Moderator descends on us too. ...No offense Rico & all the Fathers of SaligaoNet... Guess Rico finally managed to divert the "crap" that got into our mailboxes till a few days ago. Hope you get your answers, Dilip!...even if not on this forum! How about joining GoaNet or GoaNews. Rico can get you on those anytime...I think.... and you will have a full mailbox too...can get your teeth (or mind) into everything....I think... From: [email protected] To: [email protected] Subject: [SALIGAONET] The Elephant in the Room Date: Sun, 18 Apr 2010 14:24:30 +0400 Brethren, we've all heard about parishonal child abuse in Canada, Australia, Ireland, France and Germany. The matter is spreading globally, and not unexpectedly. I came across an article in "The Independent" (London) that shocked me. It was about possible parishonal child abuse in Malta, a bastion of catholicism, just like Goa. Quote: "The tiny Mediterranean state, the last place in Europe where divorce is not possible, is among the most devout in the Catholic world. But the paedophilia crisis is raging here as well, with news that 25 of the island's 855 priests face abuse allegations." http://www.independent.co.uk/opinion/faith/pope-ventures-out-of-rome-ndash-but-victims-of-church-abuse-lie-in-wait-1947233.html Isn't it time this group addressed the elephant in the room? At what point will one of us spineless ones actually stand up and ask about the welfare of our own? When will we enquire about the welfare and protection of our young people in Goa, Saligao included? Or are we going to continue to do the ostrich trick and just keep our heads buried? Well, Im not ashamed and not afraid to ask the questions. Here they are and I'd be grateful for any answers/comments/ insults(!): Q1: Are there any policies in place that afford transparent protection to the young lads in our seminary, schools or other places that deal with children, catholic or otherwise? Q2: Have there ever been any cases of alleged child sexual abuse reported in Saligao, and from such institutions in particular? If not, do we think that's a troubling finding? or are we reassured? Q3: Is there a transparent, advertised process by which the vulnerable can seek help? A telephone line, a contact person, an NGO etc Does any one in this group have answers/opinions on these issues? Or are we all in the dark....and like it that way? Surely we should not be ashamed to talk about these matters. Discussion is never harmful to people or organisations. I was relieved to learn that the RC church in India had at last taken a very, very small step to deal with the problem - they are having a conference to discuss it.....well we have to start somewhere I guess, even if its 15 years too late. http://in.christiantoday.com/articles/catholic-church-to-bring-guidelines-to-deal-with-sexual-abuse-by-clergy/5273.htm [email protected] Your E-mail and More On-the-Go.
