Hi MnM, Good to hear from you, as always! And love your sort of 'serious' sense of humour, too! (Obviously my sense of humour - although I don't know where I would be without it - is not a patch on any of yours!)
So.....many of us, who appeared to be stirring the hornet's nest regarding the issue of Child Abuse in Goa were right! Although I vowed, earlier, not to continue with this discussion anymore, on this forum (for reasons already mentioned at the time,) I can't resist making my feelings known on the subject, again. And this, especially since you, MnM, among the strongest activists on many fronts, in Saligao and Goa, have outlined the magnitude and severity of the problem as it exists at present in Goa, and the questionable availability of help should a child desperately need it. (I hope I haven't misinterpreted that part of you message.) The only way issues which deserve attention get the attention they deserve, is if people decide (and dare) to talk about them. For as long as we choose to sweep issues under the carpet, for whatever reason, obviously nothing can ever be resolved. You can count me in as one of your staunchest supporters of Child Rights, even across the 7 seas! It has always been, and continues to remain, an issue close to my heart - even during my several years as teacher in (various parts of ) Goa. Any child in distress is 'supposed' to be able to use it from *any* payphone/landline/mobile without the phone owner objecting. In fact, children are to be encouraged to use it when in need. With the amount of physical, mental and emotional child abuse (especially in schools), child labour, paedophilia and child prostitution in Goa as a whole, 1098 is very, very under-utilised. But then, how many of us adults/parents/educators are interested in making Child Rights a subject in primary/secondary education? Sure we can "...put an end to this topic", *visibly*, on this listserv, but since it is so difficult to hide it, let the "elephant" hang around in the room, even if we have to bear with it in *silent* discomfort...
