Just want to add a few more points...
the word Gaunkars is normally associated with the communidade. let me
emphasise here that ANYONE who comes to stay in the village and works
towards its development is a gaunkar (in my definition)
so people like Sanjeev, Fredrick and Budzer who are not members of the
communidade are STILL gaunkars and hence CAN make a difference by
stopping this rape of our village. the RP for slaigao was an eye
opener.. and i just hope and pray that this movement carries on for my
kids and your kids and ricos grandkids, to enjoy the land.

Rico, this has nothing whatsoever to do with class, education or
middle class/elite perspectives and everything to do with wanton greed
and a lack of accountability. Unfortunately, a few of our so called
"respected elite" have now become so entwined in corruption
themselves that they cannot stand up for what is right for the village
any longer and cower down to everything that the Panchayatt says or
does. Our Saligao Gaunkars need to be at the front of the battle to
save the village because it is being traded and sold by greedy
selfserving individuals who have absolutely no love for this village
whatsoever and are only looking to line their own pockets.
Saligao is easily divided on issues of religion, caste,
bhatkar/munkar, the have's and have not's, and these unscrupulous
individuals are exploiting these divisions while continuing to
plunder, usurp and destroy this village.
