Well! this has been an ongoing problem for several years...started with the Chowg-M road coming into being..though was not so bad as now. Some on this forum were probably not born then or just born...... hmm! So who listened/listens to a few anyway? People in high places, medium places, & low places.... have come & gone!!! Been there, done, did, objected......no joy! Retired since long from the stagnant scene. All the best! ........resurrecting, reviving, regurgitating, rehandling........ Sad about the Saliganvkars & others being injured....... Sanjeev, - "greetings and condolences" within frame & if relevant to Saligao & Saliganvkars are ok I guess! Your para caught my attention for a second since it was my pet "grouch" & that of my dad for a long time - no feedback, no support, no unity.......now of course my email is self-explanatory. But I wish you & everybody else - All the best in your every endeavour! Prayers only. Annette

Sadly, Saligaonet is reduced to a 'greetings and condolences' bulletin board. I hope the points in your message hit home, and meaningful discussions and actions emanate from it. Unlike my posting several months ago, where I had listed several points that could be worked upon to generally uplift Saligao and its people. I barely got one or two acknowledgements , let alone discussions. I suggest we physically mobilize a discussion and movement on this issue. Last year, when a few of us objected to the many gadda's that were coming up with the consent of the the Panchayat and Communidade no one supported us. A lot of people chose to sit on the fence. Its about time, we realized that we need to wake up and make some noise. More and more gadda's and encroachments are being allowed to come up and more and more people are going to be knocked down and even killed. By shying away from the reality we are only going to lose and hurt more and more people that walk on those roads every day. We should consider ourselves, as responsible as that bus driver for what has happened. By choice we shy away from confronting our elected members and this is the problem. They take all of us for granted and do what ever it takes to create an opportunity for making money and creating a vote bank. The state of affairs are so poor that for elected members, lives of people are not even worth considering. How can we just sit around and do nothing? Keith D'Souza. A study from North Carolina is the one commonly referred to. Here's a Wiki excerpt on the study that excluded people knocked over crossing the road: Sidewalk presence had a risk ratio of 0.118, which means that the likelihood of a crash on a road with a paved sidewalk was 88.2 percent lower than one without a sidewalk. “This should not be interpreted to mean that installing sidewalks would necessarily reduce the likelihood of pedestrian/motor vehicle crashes by 88.2 percent in all situations. However, the presence of a sidewalk clearly has a strong beneficial effect of reducing the risk of a ‘walking along roadway’ pedestrian/motor vehicle crash.” Mervyn mentions a list of pedestrians killed or maimed - what a tragedy, each of them. All for the need of a couple of hundred unobstructed paving slabs. Our parish priest has healing powers and I'm sure his prayers will help. These accidents are a repeat fixture in Goa. My Dad was knocked down, my cousin etc etc..Its really a matter of concern. Where I live its the same story. Roadhogs everywhere.
