Very well said, Maurice!  And not at all a ramble.....I think you gave all of
us
(who are interested in knowing what's really happening in Saligao) an excellent
'heads up' with this very succinctly written piece, incorporating all the
pertinent details.  The information regarding Pilerne's success is particularly
reassuring.  If one village (and a neighbouring one at that) has demonstrated
success, Saligao can most certainly do it, too.  Perhaps you won't need me to
make this suggestion, and it may be something you have already thought about -
but as they say, 'if you want to accomplish something, learn from someone who
has already achieved success in that area'....in this case Pilerne.  It may be
a
wise move to physically meet with those who actively 'overthrew' unhealthy
leadership (for want of a better way to say it,) and find out exactly how they
went about it.  Even if a small but dynamic group of people, the names of whom
you have mentioned, get together and pose a strong united front to the crooked
leadership in the village, I think it should work.  The reason why many people
(anywhere in the world) prefer to sit on the fence with regard to any
controversial issue, is because they fear their own back if they join the
opposition.  This is a sad but true fact, too.  However, if the people in
Saligao realize that if the group fighting for justice keeps growing, you will
obviously be in the majority, and be able to do what's right for the village
ALWAYS, without furthering your own agenda.  Politics is, unfortunately, a
filthy game anywhere in the world.  And as you rightly say, people who join
this
game, even with the very best and cleanest of intentions almost always get
dragged down into the mire.  People always have a better hope of fighting
corruption as an independent body, than hoping to fight it from within.

I really do hope to hear some good news soon, with regard to success in your
mission.

Patsy

Hey Maurice & all on the Saligaonet.
Being originally from Pilerne, I am astounded at the ability of their forum to
put a stop to these sort of activities. Maybe it is time to network with
Pilerne
and understand what made them successful.

Chris
