Dear Friends
All those who have studied in Monte de Guirim in the early sixtees will remember Fr.Ephrem. He was a very tough priest. Every boader in that school would run away on seeing him. He was strickler for discipline. Get up at 5.30 am. He would draw up a programme for every thing even for games. He would not tolerate nonsense. Today every child who passed out from his mighty hands salute this gentleman, a holy priest who did his duty from the core of his heart. Today most of the monte guirim boys have become someone mostly because of him. Even the teachers during his time know what kind of priest he was and remember him as a great leader, a good priest, a dedicated teacher. In 1969 he suffered brain haemorrage and the doctors in the Goa medical college Panjim left him to die in the corridors of the hospital. When I saw him in that stage I felt the end was near. He could recognise us but could not talk. There were tears in his eyes and ours too. He survived and lived for another twenty years to die only somewhere in 1991 or 1992.He became well and could walk, talk and even write letters. That was because he was a tough person.
Albert
