Hi all, I don't think either extreme is correct in this case.

On the one hand, it's not true that all who chose not to migrate did
to to "protect our ancestral land". Neither is it true that those who
decided not to move were "froced to stay back for some reason or the
other and are not there because they love their mother land".

Life, to me, is more complex than that.

Alan's point of view presumes that migration is the norm. Is it?
Should it be? Yes, Goa has long had a tradition of out-migration, but
is the need for it as strong as it once was?

Is Goa unable to support its population still? Are our aspirations
growing at a fast pace? Is it not possible for an emigrant to change
his or her status sometime and think of a different role back home? We
are seeing this happen in many cases, including in the case of a
talented son-in-law of Saligao, Vivek Menezes (married to Noreen
Carneiro of Donvaddo), who shifted from NYC to Saligao while in his
thirties. (Congrats to both on their third baby on the weekend.)

Just a few thoughts... more questions than thoughts. FN
