No. The
telephony
service is set to Manual. As far as I know, it has NEVER been set to
run,
and Servers Alive used to work. I don’t believe that there is any
kind of a modem card in that machine.
At any
rate, I
attempted to start the Telephony service and after a delay, I got:
Error 1503:
Service did not respond to
start or control request in a timely fashion.
I also
checked the
event logs and see that at about the time I restarted the server, there
is an
entry in the Application Log that states:
Hanging
application serversalive.exe,
version 5.0.0.1748, hang module hungapp, version 0.0.0.0, hang address
0x00000000
Any
further
suggestions?
Thanks
for all you
help.

I am not making much headway on this. I tried stopping the process
and restarting it with the exe. When it showed back up in the Task
list, there still was no User Interface. So at that point, I restarted
the server. When it came back up, I had the same situation. I stopped
the process and went to the Control Panel. The service was flagged to
allow desktop interaction and I attempted to start the service. After a
short delay, Windows reported that it could not start the service.
Grrrrrr....
Any further suggestions? Do I have to reinstall ServersAlive? If
so can someone confirm which configuration file(s) I want to keep before
wiping out the install directory or overlaying the installation
directory.
Thanks, Mike

Subject: Re: [SA-list] Missing UI
There are two options in the services control panel you can change it to
start automatically and tell it to use desktop interaction. That will
give access to the gui on the console. Or just end the process and
start it again by launching the executable. Could have been an
explorer crash which made all of the application icons in the systray
disappear.

Morning (at least here),
While I was on vacation, a junior admin messed with my server
(don't
get me started on this...) that is running Servers Alive and now the
User Interface screen does not show. When I bring up the Task List, it
shows ServersAlive in the Process list. When I look at the Services
Control Panel, it shows ServersAlive set to Manual. I believe that
ServersAlive is being started via an entry in the StartUp group, so
that
the User Interface displays on the console of the server.
What do I change to get the User Interface to display again?
Thanks for you help.
