SimCoupe shouldn't be illegal as Dr Andy Wright gave permission to freely distribute the ROMs for use in emulation. Not sure with with regards to emulation the operations of the ASIC though. I can see and fully understand the reasons why Colin would not want any of his current hardware to be emulated. I didn't realise that Colin had spent quite that much money on developing the Mayhem Emulator so he's quite right in wanting some return on his investment!
