I'm with you on this Colin. 
 
It's been a long time since I tried doing any hardware for the SAM (or Spectrum) and each time I've almost gone bankrupt doing it. The failed hard drive interface being the most serious case. Quite litterally thousands of pounds gone and never seen again not to mention the thousands of hours unpaid labour that went into it.
 
It's only that as I am in (vastly overpaid) employment now and again that I can shrug it all off as expeience or the cost of doing something for fun. I believe it's emulated in Simcoupe. May as well be, there's no more ever going to be built.
