I could publish a modified version of Sim Coupe that runs a 200% and 400% speed.

It seems like some of the confusion has come from the strong word 'denied',
which makes it sound very official and legal. In reality it was just a
request from Colin that Quazar hardware wasn't emulated, and I agreed to
that. Technically there's nothing stopping someone else from adding it, but
it would upset one of the more active SAM members and harm the community.

I do still plan to add a number of speed options, it just won't be in the
form of a specific Mayhem emulation. To be honest, it'd probably be a pig
to support anyway! ;-)

Glad to see some people still thinking with their heads. A direct emulation of the hardware could/can be restricted, but then we have encountered this on this list before when someone claimed copyright on the memory-expansion, but don't worry i won't go there, and i am certainly not planning a alternative Simcoupe version, as you said way to much trouble and such.

Still it raised the hairs in my neck, you can't deny a simple speed option in this emulator, there is no ground for that, not even in before a judge. Off course the real thing will still be better than a emulated on, only Sam is no longer priority nr. 1 anymore, i can live without certain hardware and software and still have a perfect machine to play with and to show off at Dutch computer fairs like the HCC-dagen for example. To put it simply, live moves on.

To Collin, sorry to raise a fuss about it, but simcoupe is still open-source software, i get a bit twitchy when people are trying to put limitations on open-source software because that is exactly the reason why we have open-source software in the first place.
