I'm with you on this Colin.
I'm concerned by your choice of words. Was there ever any argument?
To make this absolutely clear -- what I said was *not* an argument
against Colin's position. He definitely has the moral right, regardless
of whether or not he has the legal right.
Moral right or not, Sim Coupe is released under GNU General Public
License, and as far as i understand it would allowed to make changes in
Simcoupe accoording to this License, i could publish a modified version
of Sim Coupe that runs a 200% and 400% speed. And unless there is a
judgement by a court or a patent- or copyright infrigement there is not
much that Collin can do about it, especially since he is selling
hardware and we are talking about a piece of software here that does not
even run on a Sam Coupe.
If i am not allowed to modify the program because of the limitations as
brought forward by mister Piggot here, than i guess it (Simcoupe) should
not be released under the GNU license. Only then i am not allowed to
make changes and redistribute them accoording to the GNU License, in
fact it would then even be illegal to modify the program and
redistribute the program at all.
I understand the concerns of Collin, but somehow i am getting the idea
that this is not how it should be managed and how it should be taken
care of.
Now what if Sony would impose restrictions on GNU based programs running
on Linux or Win-whatever because they are better than what is released
for the Playstation or PSP? The world would be to small if that would
happen.
