Hi!
The only function that IMHO currently lacks to CC support is
some automatic timekeeping/timestamping. Now, acutally I
play email chess all the time only as a leisure game ie.
without timing and I'm not familiar with the requirements
for tournament play. Additionally, the organisations I
checked have not very helpful webpages on that concern and
to me it looks all a bit strange and unordered. They are all
in common only on the point that the time the server
receives the answer is counted, all the rest will resist
automatisation.
Do we have someone on the list that actually plays more
seriously by email and could give me a helping hand about
what is needed in that area?
Current cvs version contains some code that hooks up with
scids "old" email manager and places automatic timestamps
for email games upon reception and sending. I did not do
great checks upon that yet, but that is in progress in an
email game I play right now.
In checking out scids "old" code I also found that both ways
of handling email are a bit complementary in the sense that
e.g. IECG and IECC (the only sites I checked out a bit) only
allow for a very rudimentary pgn to be sent. Mainly they do
not allow for additional metadata within the header or
commentary code within the body. Actually I need some
additional metadata fields to allow for automatic
synchronisation and I modeled this after xboards cmail
function. The "old" email manager though still allows for
the easy creation of the rudiments required by these two
organisations.
Helps from the users side appreciated. :)
