I am not sure whether investing much effort here makes sense, email
chess seems doomed to die in a few years. ICCF already abandoned it,
IECG is migrating to server-based play (and already having most events
on the server), so only IECC remains notable place here (and survives
decline in popularity as a whole). { funny thing is that IECC is
forcing people to use web forms for communication and trn registration
due to the spam problems }

Simply, server-based play is significantly easier, and main reasons
for email play (scenario of player on the modem who downloads his email
and process it asynchronously - and so) disappear...

And those who remained may use ECTool, which supports email chess
fairly well.

Download ECTool and see what it is doing ;-) ECTool works
perfectly under wine, I played all my IECC games using it
and never had any problems or complaints.

I doubt anybody cares much about it when move emails are
considered. Some cleanup is needed mostly while submitting the
game score,
