Cause Tcl just does not use your default font to display UTF
chars if it does not have UTF chars. It takes a "similar"
font in this case. I think for my "SGI Screen" the fallback is
"sans".

Nope. It's not a bug, it's a feature. ;)
Take the following NAGs:
$24 White has a slight space advantage
$26 White has a moderate space advantage
$28 White has a decisive space advantage
Unfortunately, there is only one symbol for space advantage,
namely ◯, but ther're three NAGs that actually quantify the
space advantage. It's similar to +=, +/-, +- and +-- (note
that I introduced the latter for "crushing", it had no
symbol. Sometimes I saw it written as ++-. What's the
prefered writing?)
For this reason I decided to differentiate $24 from $26 and
$28 by doubling/trippling the same symbol as a sign for the
stronger advantage. I'm open to other suggestions, but I
think this is the easiest way to handle it properly and the
most transparent to the user colour or size coding would be
possible, but that would require some work on the code in
comment editor and again the string size issue might come
up. In the list I posted in the beginning of this thread you
can see which NAGs get translated to multiple symbols.
If we settle on the assignment I suggested or an improved
version by our users I'd just add this to the Help file.
BTW: finding proper symbols in UTF is PITA, to say the
least. If you find more suitable ones please let me know.
UTF is just to many chars and even in my carefull study of
the symbols available I might have missed the correct one.
Special candidates are $151, $153, $191, $193, $212. In need
would also be chars for $7 (forced), $9 (worst) and $11
(equal but quiet).
Note: internally Scid stores NAGs always in $-form, at least
this is the result of all my researches on the code.
Therefore, it's just adoption of a translation table.
Also note that I tried to distinguish an advantage for Black
from one for White wherever possible. E.g. arrows for Black
point to the opposite direction to those for White, see e.g.
$30 and $31. However, this is not possible for all NAGs. Not
enough symbols... Also note that ther're still plenty of
lesser used ones that get no translations but are written as
$ even in symbolic mode. I'm open to suggestions for those.

I'm not sure about this point. The user can say: export PGN
with $-NAGs or with symbolic NAGs in PGN export. I'd leave
it to the user here to use the correct one. Usecases might
arrise where you really want to get UTF here as PGN is also
a very good human readable format also suitable for import
into word processors. (I heard a rumor that some people
still use other tools than LaTeX. Might be a rumor, still.
;) Chances are even very good that common programs know how
to deal with UTF in PGN correctly. (Scid e.g. does very
nicely. Don't drop it to be 100% standard conform, please ;)

Point is that Scids PGN export uses both versions and here
just $-NAG is hard coded. One might thing about this
differently and adopt that switch to the setting of NAG
display in PGN window for the same reasons pointed out
above. Up to discussion.
BTW: I thought that "copy PGN to clip_board_" might be a
very helpful entry in Edit menu. I think most people miss
it's existence in PGN window. However, I'm not sure.
