Hex editing has its own set of conventions which would require either a large set of changes to Scintilla (which looks to be a large loss of focus to me) or including a different editing widget in SciTE when performing hex editing. Simon's Programmers Notepad is supposed to be doing that since an earlier non-Scintilla version did it but in my opinion, you should use a specialist hex editing application.
