You are probably going to type in the new empty tab, so Ctrl+N is a better choice. If you hate keyboards and love mice, selecting File/New shouldn't be too hard for you.
and double-clicking a tab would close it, would be great.
Click the middle button (or the wheel) on a tab to close it.
Maybe even allow the use of extensions, like firefox, to customize the editor?
