"Ideologically" meaning they were pre-CPGB-ML, or you're post- now, or
both?
Were you in the group when they did those party benefit gigs in the back
basement of the First of May? I was working for FoM at the time and was
on the door.
This was an earth-floored room deep underneath the South Bridge. Before
we broke through to it, it hadn't been used since WW2, when it was a bomb
shelter, and before that as a bottle-and-glass store for a distillery in
the 1930s; we dumped a couple of skipfuls of glass when clearing it. The
most conspiratorial venue imaginable. There *must* have been dead bodies
down there if you'd dug far enough. I think the outfit (whose name now
escapes me) who tried to set fire to the Glasgow Stock Exchange planned
their little fiasco in that space.
