Brilliant. That's the thorough history of the LP and the group members
that I'd hoped for but didn't expect. The sleeve notes say "The group
consists of five of the finest musicians on the Glasgow Folk Music
scene..." then goes on to mention only four. The cover, drawn by one
Rupert Rex, features only four musicians. The notes are claimed by Jimmy
Grimes, B.A., "President of the Glasgow Folk Music Appreciation Society".

I remember sometime in the mid 1970s travelling from Edinburgh to Falkirk
to an open air concert. As a young hippy I fancied I was taking part in a
Scottish Woodstock, although my mum probably had me home by 10pm. The only
band that made a lasting impression that day was The JSD Band. I suppose
(looking at dates on my records) it would have been Chuck Fleming on
fiddle; it was Lindsay Ross before '73. Sean O'Rourke also picked up the
fiddle now and then (was he at Glasgow Art School at the same time as you,
Stuart?).
The Clutha were still playing in the 70s with both Calum Allan and Erland
Voy on fiddle. I think I saw Drinkers Drouth (Dave Black on fiddle), but
maybe not in the 70s. I have an LP called "Norfolk and Joy" with a Billy
Cranston on fiddle; Mike Ward of The Tannahill Weavers and Alba; Dougie
Maclean with The Tannies; Tom Hickland of 5 Hand Reel; Johnny Cunningham
of Silly Wizard.

I collected a pile of Scottish folk ephemera - concert programmes, flyers,
advertising guff, etc - for a number of years; then, during a depression,
I gave it all away (I think I handed it in to Blackfriars Music in
Edinburgh) along with many, many LPs (to a second hand shop for a
pittance). Thanks to CDs, and the loss of interest in vinyl, I have been
building up my collection again.
