Yes Strictly speaking Linux is just the kernel, but as Lawrence points out, a
lot of the tools that we use as part of the Open Source movement are not in
fact covered by the GPL. We know what we mean and most everybody else knows
what we mean when we refer to Linux and its a lot more than just the
excellent efforts of Linus and Alan Cox ,Stephen Tweedie and all the others
in the kernel team.
