Hi Following my last Email to the group Colin suggested a few things to check out my failing machine, but I am having problems.
Colin suggested running fsck on all my partitions but I keep getting error's and warnings that are worrying. The filesystem is ext3. When I try and fsck my root partition it says Parallelizing fsck version 1.23 (15-Aug-2001) e2fsck 1.23, 15-Aug-2001 for EXT2 FS 0.5b, 95/08/09 /dev/hda3 is mounted. WARNING!!! Running e2fsck on a mounted filesystem may cause SEVERE filesystem damage. Do you really want to continue (y/n)? I choose no and tried umount /dev/hda3 it says: device or resource busy. Is this the right version of fsck (it mentions EXT2 above)? I read the man pages and think that this does not matter as it is a wrapper programme. How can I unmount my root filesystem to run fsck? Sorry is these questions are a bit simplistic :) Cheers Mike -------------------------------------------------------------------- http://www.lug.org.uk http://www.linuxportal.co.uk http://www.linuxjob.co.uk http://www.linuxshop.co.uk --------------------------------------------------------------------
